Rigler Elementary Vision Plan Becomes Reality 

Over the past five months, the implementation of the Rigler Schoolyard Vision has helped transform the campus of the Northeast Portland elementary school. The vision plan, developed by Juncus Studio with students, parents, and educators in 2022, reimagined the schoolyard to better serve students and the community. Their design helped shape a more than $500,000 construction project that includes green stormwater infrastructure, thousands of plants, more than 24 new trees, pervious pavement, and a new swing set and seating areas.

East Fork Lewis River Year 1 Update

Year 1 of the East Fork Lewis River Reconnection Project is complete. On September 26, crews removed the coffer dam that has been diverting the East Fork Lewis River around the Ridgefield Pits portion of the project site since June.

Mary Lou Soscia

Mary Lou spent over 38 years working at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency at both EPA Headquarters and Region 10. Mary Lou served on the EPA team that created the National Estuary Program, and worked with Congress to include Section 320 as a part of the 1987 amendments to the Clean Water Act. As a part of that work, Mary Lou provided leadership to ongoing and incoming National Estuary Programs throughout the US. Mary Lou moved to the Pacific NW in 1993 and began work on watershed restoration and tribal fish consumption throughout the Columbia River Basin. Mary Lou served as the US EPA
