Large, walkable floor maps of the entire Columbia River watershed will soon appear in classrooms throughout the state.  The Lower Columbia Estuary Partnership and Portland State University’s Center for Geography Education in Oregon are debuting the walkable watershed floor map and classroom lessons with primary-school students. Supplementing traditional tabled-sized watershed models, massive walkable floor maps allow students to explore the complex pathways of water and develop solutions to pollution.

This spring, head outdoors with one of our printable, interactive maps and explore Salmon Creek or Vancouver Lake.  

April is Earth Month, and we are recognizing the 52nd anniversary of the beginning of the modern environmental movement by teaming up with four great businesses. These business partners are showing their support for our mission to restore and care for the waters and ecosystems of the lower Columbia River. 

Summertime is an extremely important season for data collection at habitat restoration sites and reference sites throughout the lower Columbia River. This summer, the Estuary Partnership had the support of two excellent Research Technicians to complete the extensive list of field work monitoring tasks.

Sophie D'Arcy and Derek Marquis spent most of their time with the Estuary Partnership’s Monitoring Team in the field gathering data and learning about wetland plants and hydrology. Along the way, the pair had memorable encounters with frogs, birds, bugs, and river otters.
