Alex Rhodes

Alex Rhodes joined the Estuary Partnership in 2021. He delivers classroom education, on-river programs, service-learning projects, and volunteer plantings. He is an environmental professional who believes in bringing a hands-on place based lens to his lessons and nature walks. In the past, he's facilitated programs for at-risk youth to become inspired by nature and realize their potential to close the opportunity gap in the environmental sector. Furthermore, he has experience in the reuse industry with a focus on waste diversion for sustainability. Alex also has a passion for travel. He holds

Chad Brown is an accomplished documentary-style portrait and adventure photographer, creative director, film director, and conservationist. He is also the founder and president of two non-profit organizations and a veteran of the US Navy. Chad’s current work focuses on outdoor adventure travel and documenting threatened wild spaces. Chad studied communication design and photography at American Intercontinental University. Sea Level Rise Impacts to the lower Columbia River and Estuary

Sea level rise is expected to impact the lower Columbia River and estuary in a number of ways. Because of the extensive loss of tidal wetlands that has already occurred over the last century due to other, more direct human activity, one of the biggest habitat threats that sea level rise presents is the loss of additional tidal wetland areas as a result of increased tidal inundation. To carry out our scientific mission, the Estuary Partnership and its partners continually work to identify, assess, and respond to trends in the lower Columbia River and estuary. In addition to our on-the-ground Ecosystem Monitoring and Restoration Effectiveness Monitoring work, which helps inform these efforts, we also carry out a variety of additional research projects to fill other needed knowledge gaps. Pioneering Study to Explore Carbon Methane Flux in Columbia River Estuary Wetlands

A new study is underway examining the role of Columbia River estuary wetlands in global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In partnership with Oregon Health & Science University, and Portland State University, the Lower Columbia Estuary Partnership ’s Soil Carbon and Methane Study of Columbia River Estuary Wetlands evaluates the dual role of estuary wetlands in both storing and emitting gases including carbon dioxide and methane.
