Beaver Army Terminal is on the Columbia River downstream of Longview, Washington, and the Cowlitz River. Beaver Army Terminal is one of six sites that was monitored as part of the Estuary Partnership's three year Toxics and Conventional Pollutants monitoring effort. This study was implemented in 2004 by NOAA Fisheries and USGS Water Resources Center to address issues such as the accumulation of toxics in sensitive habitat areas, contaminant trends over time, and contaminant impacts on salmonids in the lower Columbia River. A National Stream Quality Accounting Network (NASQAN) site since 1974, Beaver was included in part to characterize water quality below the lower river's major urban/industrial areas.
NOAA's fish sampling occurred in 2005, while USGS's water and sediment sampling occurred in 2004-2005. Data analysis and rollup was completed in 2006-2007.
