Lower Columbia Water Trail Stewardship Ambassador
Michael Bowersox joined the Estuary Partnership in 2018 as the first Lower Columbia Water Trail Stewardship Ambassador. He will be leading volunteer paddles to various islands along the lower river—opportunities that combine stewardship and recreation—and building partnerships to bring more equity to water sports. He will also help establish low impact campsites and improved access to the river to facilitate more paddlers safely engaging with the Water Trail. Prior to joining the Partnership, he spent the last decade in the paddle sports profession, including guiding in the San Juan Islands, teaching classes for most paddle crafts, and leading the outreach and education for Next Adventure in Portland, Oregon. Michael is currently pursuing his Master’s in Education at Portland state University to become a Special Educator and Social Studies Teacher, and his is an American Canoe Association Instructor Trainer and a British Canoeing United Kingdom Certified Coach Level 2.
